Forklift Training in Hampshire, Surrey and the South East | Overlooked Training Points

Most companies in Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex realise how important basic forklift training is but only a third of them will consider specific or familiarisation training. To be a competent forklift user, operators should sit all stages of training so that they comply with the current approved code of practice (L117). Compliancy is critical to your business and failure to do so could see your company breaking the law.

Gatwick Forklifts offers onsite forklift training at premises in Three Bridges, or we can travel to hold sessions in the Banbury, Brighton, Crawley, Croydon, Dartford, East Grinstead, Epsom, Guildford, High Wycombe, Horsham, Leatherhead, Reading, Redhill, Sittingbourne, Slough and Tunbridge Wells areas.

This news post looks at specific and familiarisation training.

Specific Forklift Training

This level of forklift training gives the operator a detailed understanding of the machinery they work with and is an off-the-job course. We tailor this training to the needs of the candidate to include, where appropriate, the operating procedure for the truck, how to inspect and service it, using the forklift in work-specific conditions, applying site rules, using a truck for specific jobs and the use of safe systems.

It isn’t always prudent to expect a basic course to cover some of the specifics that come with advanced levels of forklift training. Gatwick Forklifts is a Nexen specialist but can train operators across a full range of makes and models.

Familiarisation Forklift Training

Held by a competent person in an on-the-job setting, this is a form of forklift training that gives operators a chance to apply their learning under normal working conditions. The candidate must show the skills learned in their basic and specific training, prove familiarity with their employer’s day-to-day forklift activity, and display an understanding of anything that we can’t teach during off-the-job training.

Specific and familiarisation forklift training should both be essential considerations, and not seen as options.

Your workplaces will be more susceptible to accidents which could injure other members of staff or your assets. Forklift training from the instructors at Gatwick Forklifts covers the situations your operators deal with in a real-world scenario.

Off-the-job training takes place in Sussex.
