Forklift Sales in Hampshire | Maintenance and Service Advice

To keep forklifts fully operational, efficient and safe, we recommend regular maintenance and inspections, and a scheduled forklift service, carried out by experienced personnel with suitable forklift training.

At Gatwick Forklifts, our warranty covers forklift servicing and repairs on all purchases from our forklift sales department, and on the insurance of our forklift hire contracts. If you keep within warranty or have insurance, we can always handle issues at no extra cost.

This page provides advice on how to improve the performance, and on how to extend the lifespans of forklifts, for customers in the Hampshire area.

Tyres

We recommend that operators inspect the tyres as part of their daily routines. This applies to new and used forklifts from our forklift sales department, and to machinery on forklift hire contracts. Tyre checks should begin as soon as a forklift arrives at your Hampshire business property. Check the pressure of the tyres to ensure they aren’t underinflated or overinflated. Inflation issues can cause accidents when transporting loads over rough terrains or steep inclines.

Underinflated tyres cause poor traction, while overinflated tyres can explode on impact with obstacles.

We offer a forklift service to clients in the Hampshire area which includes forklift training schemes. This training covers equipment examination techniques, including tyre checks, in compliance with current safety regulations.

Oil Changes

The oil in your forklift sales or forklift hire machinery needs changing every 3 months. Replacing the oil improves the performance and longevity of forklifts, increasing fuel economy and contributing to a reduction in combustion issues. Only qualified personnel with appropriate forklift training should carry out forklift service and maintenance work, including changing the oil.

We strongly recommend that unauthorised personnel at your Hampshire premises should never work on any type of machinery that they don’t know how to use safely.

Antifreeze Levels

Low levels, or no antifreeze at all, can cause the components of your forklift to overheat or freeze. If you are about to handle heavy loads, be sure to inspect the antifreeze reservoir of your forklift sales or hire vehicle beforehand. Low levels could be the result of leaking reservoirs or radiators. The forklift training schemes included in our comprehensive forklift services help novices to conduct the relevant checks and maintenance duties.

We also provide refresher courses for operators in Hampshire with many years of forklift experience.

Brakes

Brake pads and callipers wear down with use, and brake fluid requires regular replacement to avoid hazardous situations. Customers and clients in Hampshire can rely on our forklift sales, forklift hire and forklift training teams for help with braking components and fluids. We only employ engineers and instructors who adhere to the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Always use a skilled, accredited technician for forklift service, maintenance and inspection work.

Electric Batteries

It is critical to ensure that the battery of an electric forklift contains enough water to function properly. Whether you purchase a vehicle through our forklift sales department, or rent one from our forklift hire team, we advise clients to check the fluid levels after every five charge cycles. For optimal performance, fluid should always cover the plastic battery element.

At Gatwick Forklifts, we specialise in replacing traction batteries as part of our forklift services for customers in or around Hampshire.

Maintenance and Servicing Under Warranty

Once a forklift has undergone a thorough examination by an inspector with accredited forklift training, we issue clients with a LOLER certificate and report. This report highlights the work carried out and details which issues need actioning. Our forklift sales warranties and forklift hire insurance policies offer comprehensive cover against a range of faults and issues.

If your vehicle requires work and is within warranty, or if you have insurance, Gatwick Forklifts can carry out essential repairs at no extra cost. Take advantage of our forklift sales warranty or hire insurance to extend the lifespan, and to improve the performance, of your machinery.
